Ahhhh it’s that time of year again. Its biting ass cold, classes are beginning, and we’re all carrying an extra 10 pounds because of the holidays. But have no fear! A new year doesn’t just mean a new you (or some other cliché bull crap) it means new movies, seasons of TV shows added to Netflix, and my personal favorite, new music from our generation’s most talented artists. Here is a look at some of the new records you should anticipate in the coming year (in no particular order of course).
Kanye West- Swish (previously known as So Help Me God)
So Kanye is back at it again. After being the center of attention for news outlets across the world and his newest shenanigan of announcing his plan to run for President in the 2020 Presidential election, the Hip-Hop artist tweeted a couple weeks ago that he would be releasing his newest album sometime in February. He has released three singles so far this year in an attempt to recreate his G.O.O.D Friday releases of five years ago. Knowing Kanye he’ll delay the album until a further date or change the name once again, but he’s Kanye. He does what he wants, when he wants and we all put up with it because he has yet to disappoint musically.
Frank Ocean- Boys Don’t Cry
Frank Ocean took the mainstream music industry by storm in 2012 when he released his debut album “Channel Orange”. Since then the R&B artist has appeared on a few songs, most recently being on Beyoncé’s last album, but that was about two years ago now. He hasn’t done anything since besides tease his followers on Instagram with photos of him working in the studio and giving false release dates (he said the album would be out in July of 2015). But like Kanye, Ocean is an amazing artist who has earned the right to release his sophomore album whenever he chooses, and when it is released it will definitely be worth a listen.
Sia- This is Acting
Wait a minute, Sia!? Didn’t she just release an album that had what seemed like 20 million radio hits? If these thoughts went through your head then you’re thinking the same thing as the rest of us. Even though the Aussie artist has been around for over a decade she is hitting her stride in regards to top 40 hits, and this album doesn’t look like it’ll stop that momentum. With her recent release of “Reaper” hitting a million views on YouTube a couple of days after being released this album is poised to be just as jam packed with great mainstream songs.
With their fourth album set to come out February 16th, Wolfmother is looking to build upon the success of their 2014 release “New Crown”. Wolfmother is a band that you need to check out, especially if you listened to their 2005 smash hit self-titled album. If you’re in the mood for some Zeppelin-esque guitar riffs and a voice that was born to sing rock and roll, then Wolfmother’s new album is for you.
